Stearic acid prices moved in sharply different directions across regions in Q3 2026, according to ChemAnalyst, as feedstock, freight and demand dynamics split the market. North American and Brazilian prices climbed on cost pressure while Japanese offers eased on soft demand, leaving a wide regional spread in a product that serves as a key internal lubricant and co-stabilizer for PVC and rubber processing.
In the United States, the stearic acid Price Index rose 6.49% quarter-over-quarter to an average of approximately USD 1,614.00/MT (CFR New York), driven by firmer crude palm oil and palm-stearin parity, Indonesian export levies and freight spikes on Southeast Asia-to-USEC lanes; domestic tallow diverted toward renewable diesel tightened available feedstock for rubber-grade material. In Brazil, prices climbed 6.37% to about USD 1,630.00/MT (CFR Santos) on origin feedstock tightness and Santos port congestion. In Europe, German prices rose a more moderate 1.56% to USD 1,539.33/MT (CFR Hamburg), reflecting earlier supply tightness, Rhine low-water and Hamburg congestion.
By contrast, Japan saw the Price Index fall 1.71% quarter-over-quarter to USD 1,414.67/MT (CFR Tokyo) as a seasonal Southeast Asian palm harvest lifted feedstock availability, Malaysian and Indonesian oleochemical complexes ran high operating rates, and Japanese tire manufacturers trimmed output amid bloated export inventories. ChemAnalyst’s near-term forecast points to mild further softening in Japan absent a rebound in tire output, while the Americas retain firmer cost support from palm-oil-linked feedstock and logistics.
